How to create Goals and Subgoals?

This article will describe how to implement Goals and Subgoals as a way to track employee progress and company objectives.

How to create a Goal?

Follow these steps to create a Goal that allows employees to track progress toward company targets:

  1. Navigate to the Goals tab in the Perform app.
  2. Click on the +New Goal button in the top-left corner of the page.
  3. Enter Goal Details:
Name: Provide a clear and descriptive name for the Goal.
Description (optional): Add additional context or instructions if needed.
  4. Choose Goal Type:
Individual Goal: Assignable to multiple employees. Each employee receives their own instance of the goal.
Group Goal: Creates a single shared goal. All assignees contribute together toward its completion.
  5. Set Start and Due Dates
  6. Configure Progress Updates (Group Goals only):
Automatic: Progress updates are calculated based on defined metrics.
Manual: Progress is updated by employees through check-ins.
  7. Select Assignees
  8. Add Attachments (optional)
  9. Save the Goal

Once created, the Goal will appear on the Goals Dashboard, where progress can be tracked.

Here is a demonstration of the process described above:

How to create a Subgoal?

Subgoals allow breaking down a Group Goal into smaller, specific objectives that employees can complete individually. Follow these steps:

  1. Locate the Parent Goal on the Goals Dashboard.
  2. Open the Subgoal Creation Options:
Hover over the Goal and click the 3 dots → +Add Subgoal, or
Click the Goal name → click the 3 dots in the upper-right corner → +Add Subgoal.
  3. Enter Subgoal Details:
Name: Provide a clear and descriptive name for the Subgoal.
Description (optional): Add context or instructions.
  4. Progress Update Method:
    Set to Manual by default.
Subgoals are treated as Individual Goals under the Parent Goal.
  5. Assign Weightage (optional)
Assign a numerical value to each Subgoal reflecting its significance toward the overall Parent Goal.  A higher weight indicates a greater contribution to the completion of the Parent Goal.
  6. Select Assignee
  7. Add Attachments (optional)
  8. Save the Subgoal

Note:

  • If the Parent Goal uses Automatic Progress, a red triangle icon appears next to the Goal on the Dashboard. This indicates that overall progress cannot be calculated until Subgoals are created, as Subgoal check-ins determine the Parent Goal’s progress.

Once Subgoals are added, employees can update their progress individually, and the Parent Goal’s progress will be automatically adjusted according to the Subgoal weightages.
